2 charged after authorities find drugs during home search

On Sept. 20, two Minnesota residents were taken into custody after authorities found drugs during the search of a residence. The home was located in the 600 block of Wilson Avenue SE in St. Cloud.

The search warrant was executed by the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force and the St. Cloud Police Department SWAT team. During the search of the home, the authorities allegedly found 250 prescription pills, about 28 grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and mushrooms. Additionally, the searchers found about $2,330 in cash, a .22-caliber handgun and a .25-caliber handgun.

They took the 26-year-old male homeowner into custody. He was charged with second-degree possession of a controlled substance. He was also facing charges related to being felon in possession of a firearm. A 24-year-old woman was also taken into custody during the raid. She was facing charges for fourth-degree possession of a controlled substance. They were both taken to Sherburne County Jail.

Those who are facing drug charges may be aware of just how disruptive the potential consequences can be, especially if those individuals are in school or are trying to improve their lives. In some cases, convictions on drug charges could result in a prison sentence and make those individuals ineligible to receive certain loans. A criminal law attorney could help protect a person's future by working to get the charges dismissed or negotiating lighter sentences that will not have as big of an impact on the person's future. The defenses an attorney may use depends on the circumstances surrounding the case, though the attorney may provide proof that the drugs did not belong to the accused individual or that the individual was unaware he or she was in possession of illegal substances.
