Reality TV stars fight over child custody

Minnesota reality TV fans may be interested to learn that “Southern Charm” star Thomas Ravenel has sued his ex-girlfriend and co-star Kathryn Dennis for custody of the couple’s children. He claims he has not been allowed to see his kids in 10 weeks.

Ravenel, 54, and Dennis, 24, have two children under the age of 3. Despite Ravenel’s claims that he is being kept from his children, Dennis says that he is ignoring them while he goes out to chase women. She further claims that he is not financially supporting them. However, Ravenel counters that he pays $3,100 per month for his ex’s rent and offered her a substantially larger settlement.

The couple’s intense custody fight has reportedly increased the ratings for “Southern Charm,” which focuses on the lives of socialites in Charleston, South Carolina. Both Ravenel and Dennis have taken to social media to publicly accuse each other of various improprieties, including drug use. However, the details of any legal arrangement will likely be sealed. An initial meeting between the parties was scheduled to take place June 8 in a Charleston County court. Another hearing is scheduled for June 27.

Custody disputes can be emotional, complex and time consuming, and having the advice of counsel can be advisable. An attorney could protect an individual’s parental rights and work to arrange a child custody or visitation agreement that is in the best interests of the child. In cases where a custody agreement needs to be modified, legal counsel could help petition the court for the necessary changes.
