Individuals going through the divorce process may be dealing with a variety of feelings and emotions. In some cases, feelings of anger and betrayal dominate and lead a spouse to take actions meant to harm a soon-to-be ex-wife or ex-husband mentally, emotionally and financially.
Individuals who are embroiled in a contentious divorce with an angry and vengeful ex would be wise to protect against certain invasive and often illegal breeches to one’s privacy. Today, a number of technologies and gadgets exist to aid a vengeful ex in obtaining information about an estranged husband or wife that may be potentially harmful in a divorce.
For example, a husband or wife who suspects a spouse is or was cheating may use a number of technologies to prove a spouse’s infidelity. Spyware software can be installed on a spouse’s computer to access password protected information and gain access to a spouse’s email and personal documents. Additionally, a husband or wife may use a GPS tracking device to monitor a spouse’s whereabouts.
In cases where a husband or wife can prove a spouse was cheating, he or she may be entitled to a certain amount of assets under the terms of a prenuptial agreement. Additionally, matters related to child custody or spousal support may be influenced by the discovery of a spouse’s lies and infidelity.
Vengeful spouses may also attempt to hurt an ex financially by purchasing expensive items using a joint credit card. Racking up large amounts of credit card debt for which an ex is also responsible can hurt a spouse financially as he or she is responsible for the repayment of charges made to the account regardless of divorce status.
Some vengeful exes may also use technology to harm a spouse by logging in to personal accounts like email or Facebook. Once logged in, an ex can send emails, post photos or communicate with a spouse’s friends, colleagues and potential love interests in ways that may be inappropriate or somehow harmful.
Divorce can bring out the worst in even the nicest and most rational individuals. To avoid potential problems related to child custody, alimony and the division of assets; individuals planning or going through a divorce would be wise to take steps to protect against the tactics of a vengeful spouse.
