Rapper found not guilty on drug possession, paraphernalia charges

All types of drug charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, carries with it serious potential consequences. This is why there are many Minneapolis residents will choose to hire an attorney to defend against such charges.

Take for example the recent news story involving Grammy-nominated rapper Tauheed Epps. Epps, who is more commonly known as 2 Chainz, was found not guilty earlier this month on drug paraphernalia and drug possession charges.

In looking at the case, the rapper was arrested in February after a van he was riding in was pulled over for speeding. At the time, the rapper was with six other people — including a security guard — and was on his way to a concert.

The officer who pulled over the van claimed to smell marijuana. Under probable cause, this was enough of a reason to search the van.

During the search a gray bag was found inside of a camouflage bag. Inside of the gray bag was a grinder. Since the camouflage bag was Epps’, he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

However, from the very beginning Epps denied that the grinder was his. In fact, during the arrest he even asked the other people he was traveling with who the grinder belonged to. At that time, the security guard — who helped pack the rappers bag — said it was actually his.

The security guard said what happened was that when the group was getting ready to leave the hotel room to get on the road for the concert, he picked up a number of items that were left in the room and put them inside of the camouflage bag. The security guard denied the grinder was his, but said that since he was the one who put it in the bag he should be held responsible for it.

In looking at this case, the security guard’s story was obviously convincing enough as Epps was found not guilty.

While this case does deal with a celebrity, it should be noted that the same types of accusations and mix-ups are made with every day Minneapolis residents. And, just like with Epps, everyone has the right to talk with an attorney after being charged.
