Minneapolis teen facing solicitation charges

An 18-year-old Minneapolis teen is facing serious solicitation charges after he allegedly threatened to post nude photos of another teen online. He was recently arrested by the Apple Valley police and is free on a $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court in early April.

In looking at the accusations made against the Minneapolis teen, a 15-year-old supposedly had taking nude and sexually explicit pictures and sent them to the man. The claim is he had persuaded her into taking these photos.

After receiving the photos, the 18-year-old supposedly tried to use them as leverage, threatening to post them to such sites as Instagram and Facebook if she would not have sex with him. Supposedly, he even used her information to create a Facebook page and put one of the photos on that site.

Now the Minneapolis man is facing a solicitation of a minor charge and a soliciting a child for sex via electronic communication charge. Both of these charges carry with them the potential for serious consequences in Minnesota, including time in jail or prison.

In looking at this case, while it is too early to tell what will happen, anyone facing sex crime-related charges should keep in mind that suspects are innocent until proven guilty and that just because someone is charged with a crime, it does not mean the crime was actually committed. This is why it is particularly important to contact a criminal defense attorney as soon as there is reason to believe charges are forthcoming or as soon as charges are pressed.
