Minnesota movie lovers and comic book fans alike probably know who Scarlett Johansson is but may not know much about her personal life. This is likely deliberate as the star likes privacy, but a few details about her life are emerging as she begins the process of her second divorce.

Johansson’s first marriage to fellow actor Ryan Reynolds lasted from 2008 to 2011. The “Black Widow” actress found love again with former journalist Romain Dauriac, and the couple created a prenuptial agreement in 2014. This may dictate many parts of the couple’s separation but does not discuss who gets custody of the couple’s young daughter Rose.

Dauriac claims that he acts as the child’s primary caregiver since Johansson has a busy movie career, and he expressed distaste about organizing his and his daughter’s life around his wife’s schedule. He wishes to return to his home in Paris, France, with Rose. If this happens, Johansson could see her daughter whenever she is in Paris.

The actress had a different idea when she filed for divorce on March 7 in a New York City court. She asked for joint legal custody but wants physical custody of Rose. Johansson and Dauriac separated after less than two years of marriage, and she referred to their union as irretrievably broken. Johannsson didn’t wish to comment on the state of her marriage and noted that one day her daughter could find details about herself in the news.

Child custody disputes may involve physical and legal custody. Legal custody refers to having major decision-making abilities for a child or children, and physical custody addresses who a child resides with. One parent might have sole custody, but it is more likely that parents share at least physical or legal custody if not both.
