David Patton

David Patton

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Prior to law school, David was a teacher and theatre practitioner which uniquely qualifies him for to defend your rights. His job was to create effective presentations and performances. Much like a litigator arranging a trial, he arranged discrete parts for maximum impact. He developed a talent for translating extensive technical research into readable documents and engaging presentations, without compromising intelligence and professionalism. His skills as a counselor and advisor will give you the comfort of understanding what is happening and what your options are at every step of your case.

Immediately after law school, David was a public defender. He provided criminal and child protection defense for indigent clients in Rapid City, South Dakota. There he learned the craft of the defense attorney - daily statutory interpretation, extensive motion practice, building relationships with service providers around the state, hardline negotiating with prosecutors, and advanced strategic and tactical thinking. He got great results for his clients through aggressive motion practice, courtroom advocacy, and leveraging the best science through experts on subjects from retrograde analysis to forensic metadata analysis.

Most recently, David was in-house counsel for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. He prosecuted child protection, criminal, and regulatory matters. He also advised the Real Estate, Housing, and Natural Resources departments. As a prosecutor, he learned how to identify the weaknesses in the government's case and will use that knowledge on your behalf.

David is a father of two and devoted husband. In his free time, you'd probably find him spending time with the family, running in or training for half marathons, or reading anything from economic treatises to comic books.

Whether it is child protection, licensure, or criminal defense, David will bring his extensive experience and his unique outlook to bear on your case. It's easy for a judge, jury, or other fact finder to see only what's presented by the State on paper. David will make sure that they see a real, three-dimensional human being. This is your life, livelihood, freedom, or children at stake. David will ensure that you are well protected.
